Foster Fuels Inc. Sponsors Propane Safety Training For CVFD
Foster Fuels Inc. has teamed up with the Virginia Propane Gas Association and the Propane Education & Research Council to help educate local volunteer firemen about propane, its properties, and how to safely contain any incidents involving gas.
Dennis Crews, Propane Services LLC coordinator, is a VAPGA certified fireman instructor and he leads the safety course that is offered. This course includes information about propane’s chemical properties, how to safely contain propane spills, and when it is necessary to evacuate an emergency situation.
Several weeks ago an invitation to attend a safety course was sent out to multiple volunteer units including Brookneal, Gladys, and Phoenix. Foster Fuels provided the necessary propane items to assist in the hands-on training that was given to these brave men and women who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect their community.
“We want to do everything we can to help educate our local heroes about propane and the hazards it can pose for the safety of our employees, first responders, and our community,” said John George, Safety Director at Foster Fuels Inc.
On Saturday, June 20th, 2015 another safety course was held for all Albemarle County Fire Stations. This course included a controlled live propane burn where each participants in the class had the opportunity to experience a staged propane emergency where the gas has ignited. The Crozet Fire Department supervised the burn and Foster Fuels will be provided the necessary fuel for the exercise.
