Overwhelmed by the community response, Foster Fuels collected 408 coats during their first Spread the Warmth coat drive event. Community members were encouraged to gather any gently used, unneeded coats and take them to one of Foster Fuels’ area propane showrooms or the Amazement Square, located in downtown Lynchburg from August 13 to October 31.

The coats were washed, sorted, and delivered to the following elementary schools; Sydnor Jennings, Brookneal Elementary Schools, Chatham Elementary School, Stone Robinson Elementary School, New London Academy, Tye River Elementary School, Rustburg Elementary School. The drive focused on elementary-size coats. However, because of the overwhelming response, Foster Fuels was able to donate larger size coats to two local high schools, Halifax County High School and William Campbell High School. Adult coats were also accepted and donated to Lake Christian Ministries.

Donald Bell, Dispatch at Foster Fuels, said, “I drove the school bus part-time beforeand I actually had kids get on the bus with no jacket when I knew they needed one.” Bell helped deliver the coats to Tye River Elementary. He stated, “Proud to be part of this!”

“We are thankful for the generosity of the community,” began Jennifer Bryant Foster, Vice President of Real Estate Management at Foster Fuels. “Knowing that these coats are going towards keeping kids in our area warm this winter, makes all the effort more rewarding.”

Foster Fuels is glad to be able to “spread the warmth” through this initiative. Foster Fuels would like to thank the community for generously donating and participating in this year’s coat drive.

Seeing the generosity of everyone involved and the community’s need, Foster Fuels plans to continue accepting coats at their locations to donate.
